This is how a thriller should be written: Always moving. The main angle is from the police officers responsible for persuing this case. Not too much grief of the relatives of the victims, but an intellectual fight between the killer and the police.Great suspense, great book!

okay story others are better tho.good read good suspense and characters.good plot and suspense and believable crime characters and story.

Tami Hoag's Ashes to Ashes certainly deserves the widespread readership it has been enjoying. Hoag, no stranger to the mystery story with seven earlier works in publication, absolutely deserves the attention she has received for her latest work.Set in Minneapolis, the story revolves around the investigation of an apparent serial killer that has mutilated and burned at least three victims as the story opens. While the first two deaths were investigated without the alarm surrounding a serial murderer, the third woman is thought to be the daughter of local multi-millionaire, Peter Bondurant. At his daughter's disappearance, Bondurant sounds the alarm for action by calling his many connections, including the Director of the FBI.A worthy cast of Minneapolis Police officers steps up to the plate to investigate the murders, along with two central players, Kate Conlan, a victim's advocate and John Quinn, FBI Special Agent.Much of the story revolves around many exciting twists and turns the investigation takes. We are treated to the mind of the killer with periodic asides into his thinking about the case. While the story keeps the reader on the edge of one's seat, there is also some worthwhile unrelated goings-on in the rekindling of love by Conlan and Quinn who know each other from an earlier life.Hoag doesn't just provide us the pat simple conclusion to Ashes. Instead, the hunt for the killer winds down in a series of surprising and completely unexpected ways. Highly recommended. A true thriller from start to finish!

Turn off the phone and lock the door. You're in for a roller coaster ride of twists and turns to the end of this frightening, compelling thriller. Ashes to Ashes has it all. It's fast paced, terrifying, suspenseful and will keep you guessing to the very last page. There's a serial killer loose in Minneapolis dubbed, the Cremator, by the papers, who's been murdering young women in public parks and then setting them on fire...Ashes to Ashes. The police don't have a clue until a runaway, Angie DiMarco, witnesses the crime. She's seen the killer's face as he cremates his last victim, but she isn't talking. Enter Kate Conlan, ex-FBI agent turned victim advocate who's supposed to protect Angie and get her talking and John Quinn, the FBI's best profiler, brought in from Washington to help catch the killer. They've shared a painful past, but must move forward to catch the Cremator before he strikes again. What happens next will keep you on the edge of your seat for the entire book. This is a stunning story with great characters, riveting scenes and writing that is as good as it gets. The whole story pulls you in and never lets go. Tami Hoag never disappoints, and she's not starting now.

He lurks in the dark, he selects his victims, and after killing them he sets them on fire, he is the "cremator", and he has an unquenchable thirst for murder. The killer has already killed three people, but to his surprise there is a witness. When a rich man's daughter is missing, and may be the latest victim of the "cremator", special agent John Quinn is assigned to the case. Also on the case is Kate Conlan, a former FBI agent, assigned to protect the witness, a difficult, street girl, who is not willing to cooperate with Kate. To make matters worse, Kate has a history with Quinn, and does not want to work with him.Putting their differences aside, Kate and John must work quickly to put an end to anymore killings, and to save the witness and Kate's lives, for they have become next on the killer's list."Ashes To Ashes" is fast paced, suspensful, gruesome, and as always, contains a shocking ending.Tami Hoag has VERY successfully crossed over into the suspense genre, becoming one of the best at creating UP ALL NIGHT reads.A MUST read.Nick Gonnella

"Ashes to Ashes" has the worst cliches of the "serial killer of women" genre. It features the sadistic torture and mutilation of women by a sicko who had an unhappy childhood. Hoag throws in the old saw about former lovers who try to reignite what they once had and unfortunately lost. There are also a number of red herrings that are completely unconvincing. The "solution" to the mystery is so ridiculous and convoluted as to be almost laughable. This is the first book that I have read by Hoag. The success of this book is a sad commentary on the public's taste in crime fiction. Of all the faults of this book, the sadism against women is the worst. There is no need to depict such graphic violence. If you read British authors of crime fiction such as P. D. James, Elizabeth George and Ruth Rendell at their best, then you will see that the dark side of human nature can be portrayed in a more meaningful and less sadistic manner. There is no need to pander to the lowest common denominator of the reading pubic.
